Not all golf courses require golf shoes but if you're a passionate golfer a quality pair of comfortable golfing shoes is a good idea.  You don't want your feet sliding around. Golf requires good footing and a well made soled shoe can give you that.

Professional golfers tend to prefer rubber studded shoes as opposed to metal studs and I hear there is no difference in balance between the two. The biggest benefit to rubber studs is that they won't damage to the green.

Golf shoes come in many styles and colors, some even in sandal styles or the look of a  moccasin.  If your budget is tight and you can spend the extra cash on golf shoes, try wearing a pair of shoes that have a good grip, for example shoes with bumps or ridges.
