Here are a few foot facts, and a few shoe facts too, that are interesting to note when caring for your feet and also may help when buying shoes that are good for your feet…   

1. The results of poorly fitting shoes cost Americans more than $2 billion each year.
2. An industry survey found that more that 1/2 of Americans are not wearing properly fitted shoes.
3. If your shoes fit right it can add value to your footwear purchase.
4. The average foot increases up to 1/3 of an inch when you stand up.
5. High heel shoes dramatically increase pressure on the front of the foot and can cause or aggravate many forefoot problems.
6. Jumping can put up to 9 times your total body weight on your foot.
7. A ball and ring device may be used to provide a little more room for toe deformities.
8. The arch of a baby’s foot begins to visualize around age 2.
9. In the first three years, an average child’s foot will grow about 2 and 1/2 sizes per year.
10. The European system of shoe sizing uses centimeters that are approximately 4 sizes to an inch compared to 3 sizes to an inch in the American sizing system.
11. It takes 13 years for the average child’s foot to fully develop, that is the bones to ossify and mussels/ligaments to grow strong.
12. The number one method of exercise in the U.S. is walking.
